Meet the Arc of Katy Board (2011 - 2012)
Mike Lattal, President
Mike Lattal joined the Arc Board in May 2010. He has supported ARC as a volunteer assisting in fund-raising and charity events and the program committee. He has developed his passion for ARC participants through his wife Therese who is a Counselor for the Day Camp program. He is currently a consultant after working for over 30 years at BP as a Financial and Commercial Manager. He served on the Board and as President of the Gas Processors Association, an industry organization associated with Natural Gas Operations. Originally a native of the Chicago area, he received his Masters Degree (MBA) from DePaul University, and undergraduate degree from Western Illinois. He currently is a member of Epiphany of the Lord in Katy, and assists the St. Vincent DePaul organization. Mike and Therese have three children and one grandchild.
Donna Bode, Vice President
Richard "Whitey" White, Secretary
Mr. White joined The Arc of Katy Board in July, 2010. He is a self-employed consultant for the oil and gas industry, where he has worked in the geophysical exploration business for over 32 years. He is currently a director for two public companies: Omni Energy Services Corp and Oyo Geospace Corp. He recently completed his 6-year term as a director for SIRE whose mission is improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding and related activities. In addition he served six years on the board of The Pregnancy Help Center of West Houston; helping meet the spiritual, emotional and physical needs for people facing an unplanned pregnancy. He is active at the Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church where he and his wife of 30 years have been members for 23 years. He volunteers in the Outreach Ministry 25 hours a month and a catechist for helping high school juniors receive their Confirmation (5 hours each week). Whitey and Nancy have three grown children; one married living in Katy with two daughters; 2 and a half year old and a one month old, a son living in Denver and a daughter working in Dallas for Camp John Marc, a camp for young people with childhood illnesses.
Cindy Shiffler, Treasurer
Ms. Shiffler, a native of Nebraska, became the board’s treasurer in July 2007. She is currently a 9th grade assistant principal’s secretary at Morton Ranch High School. Her previous experience with individuals with disabilities was at James E. Taylor High School working as a classroom paraprofessional and work-based learning job coach. Her expertise in financial matters came from her employment at Enron where she was an administrative assistant to an executive. Cindy also belongs to the National Charity League Azalea Chapter where she is The Arc’s liaison in organizing volunteers for our social events, fundraisers, and summer camp session. Cindy attended University of Nebraska at Omaha and moved to the Katy area in 1986. She is the mother of 3 children and belong to Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church.
Ann Davis, President Emeritus
Mrs. Davis has advocated and worked to improve services and programs for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 25 years. She is a charter member of The Arc of Katy, serving as its first president and for a second time beginning in 2004. Ann’s love and concern for her mentally challenged nephew has grown into a passion and works to see that each individual has the opportunity to live their lives to the fullest and be a participating part of our community. Ann, a native of Katy and Waller County, received her degree in Economics from Sam Houston State University. She retired from a major oil company after a 30 year career in Information Technology. Ann and her husband, Art, live in Katy where they are members of the First Baptist Church, active in politics, and long time supporters of Katy High School activities.
Ann Hodge, Board Member
Mrs. Hodge joined the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce as the President/CEO in May 1999. She is keenly aware of the challenges facing the community to maintain an outstanding quality of life as well as an excellent education system. Prior to joining the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Hodge served as Divisional Vice President of External Affairs for Browning Ferris Industries, the world’s second largest solid waste disposal firm. Mrs. Hodge served on the Texas Workforce Investment Council for over 20 years and as the Chair for 8 years. Additionally, she serves on numerous national, regional and local organizations, including currently serving as a director of the Texas Association of Business, Katy Performing Arts Society and the Texas Women’s Alliance. Ann also serves on the Texas Children’s Hospital Advisory Council and was elected to the ARC of Katy Board in 2011. During the Hurricane Relief Efforts, Ms. Hodge led the efforts of the Katy Area Chamber to deliver relief services to over 7,000 evacuees in the Katy Area. Mrs. Hodge is actively involved in state and local politics and various community and civic organizations. Ms. Hodge is married to Robert D. Hodge and they have one son, Richard D. Hodge and five grandchildren. They reside in Katy, Texas.
Barbara Dale, Board Member
William (Bill) Hastings, Board Member
Mr. Hastings began with The Arc Board in July, 2008. Bill has worked in the Community Service Field for 34 years. After serving 23 years in the City of Katy’s Police Department, he became Police Chief in January 2009. A few of Bill’s accomplishments include a Bachelor and Masters degree in Law Enforcement, FBI graduate, and National Certification as a Paramedic/EMT. He and his wife, Susan Denise, are long time Katy residents, have five children, two grandchildren, and one on the way. He enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, fishing, hunting and he belongs to First Baptist Church Katy.
Mary Maltz, Board Member
Mrs. Maltz joined The Arc board in May 2008. She is a Work-Based Learning Job Coach with Katy High School. She has experience working with individuals with disabilities for the past 16 years. She is currently enrolled in Houston Community College continuing education classes working towards a bachelor’s degree. She and her husband, Ken, have three grown children and two grandchildren. They have lived in the Katy area for the past 25 years and are members of St. Edith Stine Catholic Church. Mary enjoys gardening, shopping and spending time with her two grandchildren in her free time.
Susan Denise Hastings, Board Member
Mrs. Hastings began with The Arc Board in July, 2008. She wants to work with The Arc Board to create additional training, education, and an expansion of services for all children and adults with IDD. She has an Associate Degree in Child Development and a certification from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She also holds Certifications in Crisis Counseling from: Texas Council on Family Violence; The Office of the Attorney General Crime Victim Services of Texas and Office for Victims of Crime. She has had the privilege in the past to work as Owner/Director of her own Day Care Facility and as Director of a Crisis Center for Sexual Abuse and Domestic Abuse Survivors. She currently serves as Senior Administrative Support/Document Control in the Process Plants Department with Mustang Engineering. She has lived in the Katy area most of her adult life, raising her family in Katy. She enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, spending time at their beach house and working in her yard. She belongs to First Baptist Church Katy.
