New bus rides the road for expanding day program

As The Arc of Katy continues to expand our day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), we on July 26 welcomed arrival of a new slightly-used bus that will enhance our capability to transport participants to activities, attractions and events.

“The purchase of the bus was made possible through generous donations received at The Arc of Katy 2019 Fund-Raising Gala Celebrating Hometown Heroes,” reports Fred Shafer, President of The Arc of Katy Board of Directors. “We aim to provide opportunities for people with IDD to be included as respected and active members of our community throughout their lifetime. Safe, reliable transportation enables us to transport our participants to the many attractions and events available throughout the Katy Area and Greater Houston.”

The 2009 Starcraft Prodigy MFSAB 14-passenger bus is the newest of four buses that The Arc of Katy has available to transport program participants to physical fitness programs, carry out local community service projects and enjoy field trips to museums, sports parks, restaurants, events and other points of interest.

“The Arc of Katy aims to expand the programs and services we offer for current participants and also increase enrollment opportunities as community need grows for programs like ours,” Shafer said. “Improving transportation capabilities is an important factor and we also will continue to consider options for expanding facilities.

“We appreciate the generosity from our community partners and donors that is helping us maintain and grow quality, affordable social, recreational and life-long learning programs in a friendly, safe environment to enhance lives of people with IDD and their families.”
